Dr.Veeramani’s political trail has several interesting chapters. Especially his early party nurturing days had several struggles and challenges, which was new to him. Party meetings were one of the major challenges during those days. Though meetings were organized alongside music, dance and chanting, they also had untold amount of hurdles. Soon after Justice Party was renamed as Dravidar Kazhagam at the Salem Conference in 1944, the party conducted more meetings revolving around social reformation. More number of members enrolled into the party and more number of reformative activities were implemented. Dr.Veeramani’s early days in the party thus started, so did his lessons for life.

The Nellai Meeting:
Thanthai Periyar was invited to give a speech in Tirunelveli [Nellai]. Thiru K.M. Brahmanayagam, the Tirunelveli district Dravidar Kazhagam leader and the owner of “Kumara vilaas,” a famous vegetarian restaurant, organized the meeting. Dr.Veeramani was one of the singers who sang the party song after which the meeting proceeded. Around this time, the congressmen, who were always at logger heads with Dravidar Kazhagam, started making obstructions against the party, as klkthey hoisted a black flag, on August 15th, 1947 to show their opposition against social discrimination still persisted in India. Thiru. Brahmanayagam’s restaurant was attacked by the congress men as sequel to the party’s black flag hoisting. Even when their party men were victimized, young Veeramani and his party members did not lose their temper. They put up a hoarding at the road junction asking if this was the way of congress non-violence.
The meetings at Cuddalore Selvam square and Manjai Nagar:
During the early 20th century, Congress and Dravidar Kazhagam were two prominent political parties in Cuddalore. They usually conduct their meetings in Cuddalore Selvam square or in Manjakuppam Town. Usually the meetings conducted would be largely attended by people, most often with great curiosity to know who was about to speak in the meeting. Once, a meeting was conducted in Cuddalore Selvam Square against compulsory Hindi in Tamil Nadu. Midway through the meeting, congressman started pelting stones from atop of a hotel building. Several party members including a police official got hit badly. Dr.Veeramani who just gave his speech and returned back to his seat missed a huge wooden log which hit his other party member instead. Thiru. Govindan who was the next speaker was hit badly in his head. Despite his bleeding injury, Thiru.Govindan continued his speech. Such was the party members’ zeal towards Periyarism. Later, another party member K. Shanmugam was badly injured by some rogue congressmen, while he was returning back to home from the meeting at Manjai Nagar.
The Idol breaking rally:
Dr.Veeramani’s brother joined DMK while he stayed with Dravidar Kazhagam. Even though the two parties split, there was no misunderstanding between them. Each party continued with their own principles without interfering in each others’. Around this time, there was a rally organized by Dravidar Kazhagam in order to break idols of Vinayaga, the Hindu God. Opposing this, the congress partymen ransacked Dr.Veeramani’s brother’s hotel called “Thamizhar Unavu Viduthi.” Though Dr.Veeramani was the target of the attack, since he was not in the hotel at that time, his brother and the hotel staffs got brutally injured. Apart from the attack, some of the party members also got arrested the next day. The early days of Dravidar Kazhagam was definitely not a cake walk, however the party grew stronger with the numerous sacrifices and bloodshed by its members.
